Phalaenopsis Iris with broken stem

mindy5792May 18, 2010

I received a small Phalaenopsis iris. My daughter bent/broke the stem about 2 inches below the flower and now it's dying.

Should I cut or snap the stem? If so, where? Will it grow back?

I am not familiar with a Phalaenopsis iris. Per Wikipedia, "Phalaenopsis Blume (1825), abbreviated Phal in the horticultural trade,[1] is an orchid genus of approximately 60 species."

You might try searching or asking at the forum linked below.

If it is an orchid, cut it back underneath the flower, or in this case I would cut it back to the green. It might shoot out new blooms in a month or 2. If it doesn't flower or the flower spike browns completely, cut it all back to the base of the plant.
