Blue-green algae

kevandkarenJuly 24, 2008

My vet said I should not let my cat drink from the fish pond if it has blue-green algae in it. There's algae there, of course, but is blue-green algae common in circulating ponds? How can I identify it?

And no worries, the koi are QUITE safe from THIS cat!

The big concern with outside water is geardia and other parisites that live in water as a host. The alage will not hurt the cat. These bugs cause diarea and vomiting, fever and listlessnes. I do work for a vet and we see these things all the time in the summer months. Pond WATER my make them sick not the alage.
