Gutters - Yes or No?

gtucci1(8)January 29, 2012

I moved into a new home about a year ago and have been set on having gutters installed. I have a spot on the north side of my house that stays wet because the dew drips off the roof every morning and I have a spot where the rain is washing away all my garden soil as the roof comes to a valley in this area. Talking to my mother the other day she told me it would a waste of money because it rains too hard and quickly in South Louisiana for the gutters to handle and I would still have the problem with the soil being washed away as the splash guard would only slightly stop the deluge of rainwater. Does she have a point?

Gutters help in some cases. We have them along two sides of the house. We had to install a scupper and downspout for an area where two valleys meet. For other valleys without gutters I place river rock below them. Much less erosion with the rock.
