Half Runner Beans

woodiesgirlFebruary 6, 2010

I'm new here. I want to learn as much as I can about gardening.. I will probably be asking lots of questions.

Anyway I was talking to somebody on another board about green beans. I said we were going to grow half runners. They ask me what are "half runners" How do I tell them what they are?

I'm sure they don't want to know that, that's the only kind my parents grew. LOL And that is the only kind we like.. I think their looking for a better explanation than that.

The name is about as good a description as there is. It is bean plant that puts out a profusion of short runners, normally less then three feet. Most folks grow them as bush beans altho they grow as a tangled mess. There are a dozen or more varieties available. Flavor is more like a pole bean.
