Newbie ques about iris leaf color

TNY78(7a-East TN)June 17, 2013

When I received my iris order last week, there were quite a few mystery bonus iris included. Most of them are green all the down to the rhizome, but one is purple where the leaves meet the rhizome (I'm sure there's a proper term for that area, so please feel free to educate me). I'm wondering if the purple in this area is indicative of the color of the bloom...

The one on the right is the one that I'm curious about

That's called "purple-based foliage" and many people buy those irises for the foliage alone. Sometimes it can help you identify a plant, such as distinguishing between Bright Hour and Wabash. I don't think there is a particular color of flower associated with it though. I have Rip City, a red which has pbf, and Wabash which is a purple amoena has pbf too.
