i can only find a picture with a bowl of mixed beans when i google. Are all the beans in that picture nunas? Anyone have a picture of the seed?
Yes, that pic is of Nuna's. The characteristics are typical with a rounded, egg shaped, or very slightly elongated bean about 1/4 inch diameter though some are a bit smaller. I have variants of Nuna's with one that is black, one white, one speckled similar to Turkey Craw, and one with a 'razorback' of dark gray on a bean that is a whitish gray.
The shape of the bean is important for them to pop properly. kidney shaped beans don't pop as well as the nearly round varieties.
An interesting trivia item I found with them is that they have a very very crisp crunchy texture as snap beans. This trait has not yet been exploited by anyone else breeding beans. It is a trait with a lot of potential in the snap bean market. Only Burpee's Tenderpod has similar snap characteristics but at the expense of 1/4 of the seed not germinating.
Thanks Dar. They all look so different! Here is the picture.
