Hi iris lovers,

The first in a series on the favorite creations of different iris hybridizers is on the AIS blog today. I began with Walter Moores. There are pretty pictures too!

In six weeks, we will see the favorites of Don and Ginny Spoon. Yahoo!

Thanks, Renee! I really enjoyed that--the clump shot of Moonlight and Wine is awesome!

I have grown Shore Patrol, and it did very well here in north coastal SC, Zone 8.

I'm always confused that people think irises don't do well in the south. They do spectacularly well here in my town IF they have the right care and the right amount of sunlight :)

That's good news, Mike. I'll bet most of Walter Moores' intros would grow well for you. Some of the newer ones are all ruffles! I really like the color in Yalobusha Desert.

I enjoyed your article and look forward to more articles about hybridizers. I am beginning to realize that I can't have all the iris that there are, and I need to find the really nice ones that do well where I am. Knowing where they came from will help me in this. Thanks!

I think a big part of the fun is finding out what does do well in your garden! Not all will, but it's so gratifying when a plant you really like starts growing like crazy!
