Direct Sowing Hosta

davemichigan(zone 6a (SE Michigan))June 18, 2009

Hi, I am interested in growing hostas and just bought 2 packets of hosta seeds. At this time of the year, should I just sow the seeds directly outdoor? Is there a point of starting them indoor?

And do they need stratification?

Thanks!

I can't remember when I did it,but I have started hosta seeds in pots a couple of times, and they do just fine. Also there are no fungus gnats to worry about outdoors. Phil

hosta seeds do not need any cold storage b4 sowing, and can be grown all winter indoors or sown outside at any time. Hosta drop there seeds in the fall and they come up in the spring.
