asiatic lily rebloomer?

jchristy_growerMay 12, 2010

i am completely new to gardening so please bear with my ignorance. i bought several asiatic lilies a few months back that all bloomed beautifully now they appear to be making new buds. are these buds going to bloom again this season or next? like i said i know this is probably a really dense question but i'm a newbie with no gardening buddies. thanks.

No, they're not producing new buds and they won't be blooming again this season. If you've not cut the spent bloom remnants and the short stems where blooms are/were attached to the main lily stalk, what you're seeing is the formation of seed pods. You can snip these off and all the energy will go towards replenishing the bulb(s) for next season rather than being wasted in seed production.
