When / How to trim ???

Have afew iris plants.

Blooms are done....dead blooms remain.

Cut the bloom stalk down ? When ? How much ?

Regular leaves.....cut down when and how much ?

Anything to do to maybe get some more flowers next year ???

Cut the bloom stalk down as soon as the flowers are finished. As far as the foliage is concerned, I usually cut mine back to about 6-8 in. in a fan shape. However, now is not too late. As far as more blooms for next year, make sure your clumps are not over crowded. I find my iris's bloom better every year for about 4-5 years and then need dividing. I fertilize with super phosphate around Thankgiving. Good Luck!

I don't cut the foliage unless it is diseased. I pull away outer leaves that have/are dying. The leaves are producing nutrients for the rhizomes.

If you have vigorous growers, leaf trimming may not affect bloom. I haven't seen a definative report. Low nitrogen fertilizer will not encourage leaf growth at the expense of bloom. Some commercial growers apply it 6 weeks prior to bloom.
