bent stems advice

susz52(5a Ont Ca)June 10, 2009

I bought two packaged bulbs of Casa Blanca. I really like this tall substanial plant. Of course it was sprouted and the stems were u-shaped. I planted and placed in indirect sun to establish with the sun opposite the u, but have seen no change in the last two weeks. If I cut off the growth will the bulb put up a new one? I haven't had this problem before and before I lop anything off I decided to ask. Thank You.

Do not cut the growth! They will not send new shoots this year. The foliage will feed the bulbs for the next year blooming. You can cut it when it will be brown and dry. Planting this late can affect this year performance of course, but Lilies are perennials. Next year they will be just fine.

Leave it alone. It needs time to get rooted in. Lilies know which way is up. It will straighten itself in time, though probably retain a kink at the base. It will probably not bloom this year, but if it can produce top growth and nourish the bulb it will bloom next year.
