ID my lilly

nordbyc(zone 4)June 26, 2006

I'm out of my area here but my wife wants to know what

kind of flower her grandmother handed down to her.

It has been called a lilly by her and from what I can tell that is what it is. The picture shows a pot with a couple dozen of these bulbs in. Unfortunately the flower that I

got around to photograph has a notch in the petal which

they hardly ever do. They don't seem to be hardy here in

zone 4, so we put them over in the basement for the winter.

They flower like crazy in the summer and are beautiful.

Look up "zephranthes" on the web. I don't have time to do it right now or would do it myself. But I think zephranthes might be what you have there.

Definitely Zephyranthes, as Lainey suggested, also known as rain lilies (you'll get a lot of info if you Google "rain lily" as well). Mine are going nuts right now with the five days of constant rain we have had here in the Mid-Atlantic.
