Cutting back Irises

fernlover(z8)September 19, 2013

Is it alright to cut irises back now that they have those unattractive brown edges?

Yes. I pull off all of the old leaves and trim off the brown tips. Some people cut them back to eight inches or so. The word is that it is best to leave the foliage as long as possible to give the new rhizomes more energy to bloom in spring, but sometimes we can't stand them any more.
