Mystery Lily

livestrong4ever(4)June 19, 2007

I moved into this house last summer, and didn't do anything with all the flowers growing until this year.

Well, I was digging in some of the thick greenery and found what I thought are some sort of lilies. I also have some big orange lilies right next to this area. I don't know if I should somehow trim back the black plant growing around it, or what I should do. Any thoughts?

I think you have Voodoo Lily. If so, WOW:

Its a cousin of the voodoo lily, an Arisaema griffithii (from what I can tell). It's a nice woodland flower and they need the foliage to make food for the plant, so don't cut back the foliage. The flower does not need the sunlight, the leaves do. The flower is down low because it is pollinated by crawling critters.
