At a plant swap today, I got about 6 bearded iris divisions. Should I plant them now or wait until spring? One division did not have its leaves clipped - should I also clip those?

These may sound pretty basic, but I am a novice with irises!

Hi madabouteu,

Welcome to the joy of growing irises.

There is a great FAQ here. How do I dig, divide, and transplant bearded irises? that will help in your planting.

Should I plant them now or wait until spring?
Plant now.

One division did not have its leaves clipped - should I also clip those?
Yes, I would cut it back, so it will not cause the iris to fall over, pulling the rhizome out of the ground.

Hi-

Yes, plant now. Now that the worst of summer is about over here in TN, I'm just now moving iris into a new bed. If you have cold, damp winters, make sure the rhizomes won't be sitting where water collects - mound them up a bit.
