Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki' (toad lilies)

treehugger(z6 NW Arkansas)July 8, 2005

I've had toad lilies in a bed now for three years and they have multiplied tremendously and need to be divided....I really need to do that now....can I divide them now, in summer...I'm not worried about whether the transplanted ones bloom next year or not, I just need to thin them.

I can't find the answer in your FAQ.

Thank you so much.

I have a couple of big patches of toad lilies and never have a problem moving them around or dividing them any time of the growing season. My only advice would be to follow the general rule for dividing and transplanting----do it on an overcast day, if you can, work fairly quickly, and keep everything well watered afterward. Good luck!

Thank you, Kathi. Glad to hear that it can be done safely...will certainly take your advice regarding a cloudy day and watering. That's all I needed to hear...it confirms what I thought too...they are tough plants.

I will be dividing my toad lilies to send some to a friend. What is the best technique, both for dividing and packing them? Thanks.
