How much Sun?

mantorvillain(z4bMN Dodge)October 30, 2011

I've slowly accumulated a number of Iris which I'd like to group together.. Problem is, like all too many other gardners is that I have too many plants and not enough room and not very much full sone anywhere. Our front porch faces east and I have a bed beneath the front porch. We do have a large maple about 75' away which blocks some of the sun so it doesn't get a full half day of sun. Would they do OK there?.

and, by the way, I grow brugmansias (angel trumpets) of which I have a number of cuttings rooting in perlite I'd be willing to trade for Iris. Some are well rooted and some just starting but all would need to be carried over under lights this winter. I'll still be able to be able to mail plants out for a few weeks yet and waiting till next year for receipt of any trade would be OK with me.

I'll appreciate feedback on my question and welcome trade offers.

I have heard six hours is the minimum for bloom. Good luck with your trades.

The more sun the better. mine are in the sun all day. Late shade from some trees. Some did ok in part shade and others did awful! So I moved them all out into the sun. WOW!!! what a change. Give them all the sun you can.
