Animal eating green beans

skmahoneyJuly 27, 2011

Does anyone know what type of animal eats green bean plants? All of my plants are down to just the stem. Last year & this year I've caught a glimpse of something small - say about the length of a hot dog - and black. It moves too fast for me to get a good look at it. I'm trying to figure out what it is so next year we can find ways to keep it out! Thanks for your help.

It could be one of several kinds of rodents. I've lost three or for plantings (64 feet each) of pole beans, this summer, just because of a couple rabbits. I finally broke out the 20 gauge and got rid of them. Ground hogs are also bad about eating beans. Your critter could be something on the order of a vole.
