too late to plant greenbeans (bush beans)

hummingbirddaisyJuly 6, 2006

At the beginning of the growing season, I didn't have anough room to do my greenbeans as I filled the garden bed with daylilies last fall. I now have a great space for veggies. Is it too late in the year to plant greenbeans in zone 5a? Don't some people start a second crop of these? I'm thinking later in the year, but just not sure. I am still learning all of this stuff as far as veggies are concerned.

Thanks so much, Tina

You should be able to plant bush beans at least. Check out on your calendar, till the date of your average first frost. If you have about 80-90 days you could even plant most pole beans. But bush beans come in very quickly, some as early as 48 days from seed.

You can definately still plant bush green beans. Last year I even planted some around August 5 and got a harvest. I'm still hoping to get some in this month.
