Epsom salts and lilies?

linnea56(z5 IL)July 6, 2009

I have been reading here about using Epsom salts for lilies with yellowing leaves. I have one area in my garden where this seems to be a problem. All the Orientals are affected. Apart from the leaf color they look fine. The asiatics seem normal.

IÂd like to try the Epsom salts but wonder about dosage. Mix with water in what ratio? Sprinkle on? I donÂt want to poison any plants.

Orientals tend to prefer soil with a slightly acidic ph. If your ph is neutral to alkaline they may not be able to take up the iron they need from the soil, thus the chlorotic appearance. I'm not sure about the amount of Epsom Salt, sorry. There is also a foliar iron spray that may help, I'm sorry I can't think of the specific name right now. You may want to have a soil test done.
