Edible sweet peas?

lilacs_of_mayJuly 9, 2007

I'm a newbie gardener who just moved into a new house last year. The house came with a large patch of sweet pea flowers. They're fading now and forming pea pods, about 3 to 4 inches long.

Are these edible?

No. Sweet peas (Lathyrus odoratus) are toxic.

Leave them on the vine and save the seed for next year...

Good to know. Thanks. I'll stick to my snow pea pods.

But that must be why there are so many of them. They must be reseeding like crazy.
