Planting Asiatic Lillies for best display?

janie58(5a)July 20, 2009

Hi All. I planted some asiatic lillies last year and this year they are up and blooming nicely. I have about 4 small groups of different colors in orange/yellow, white, pink, and a reddish purple. I have them in the middle of the garden - taller flowers in back and shorter flowers in front of them.

Would it look better to MIX all the different colors or leave them in their own color groups? I have been trying to find photos on the internet of gardens showing both kinds of displays and really haven't found what I have been looking for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I prefer clumps of the same color and variety, but that takes awhile for lilies to multiply into that or you have to start with too many bulbs of the same variety which is too expensive. Then mix the clumps of color is most effective to my taste. I'm sure yours are beautiful though, and plants just work themselves in your scheme as they will.
