Need help on Lillies!!

KUB4ME(6b)August 20, 2005

I have a lilly called a Cahaba lilly that I would like to germinate and have a flower bed full of them. Does anyone now of a process that I can follow to accomplish this.

This lilly appears to have seed pods, about the size of a garlic clove, after the blossom drops.

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

I had to google to figure this one out. What you have is actually a member of the amaryllis family, not lily family. I recently germinated amaryllis by simply floating the seeds in water until a root and tiny bulb formed, then I transferred them to a pot to grow on a bit. I don't know if it will work like that for these though. What I read is that these grow wild in wet areas of the south so I doubt if they need a cool period to germinate. Two other forums here might help you more: Growing from Seed and the Alabama Forum (where this plant grows wild). If you post to these forums use the common name for the plant and also the Latin name which is Hymenocallis coronaria.
