How close can you plant bulb to each other

I am new to Lily gardening. I am wondering, can you plant a cluster of bulbs together for a more dramatic look? If so how far should they be apart?

You can plant as close as 6 - 8 inches, but the closer you plant, the sooner you'll need to dig and divide them.
