Bad lily location??

jscaldwellOctober 21, 2013

Hey all,

Take a look at these...planted last spring next to a driveway in Central TX that gets a lot of sun and gets HOT. Thought the lilies would do o.k. if I kept them watered, but maybe I didn't do enough? Originally they were twice this size and bloomed, but eventually retreated to what you see here. I had 5 originally (one had died/disappeared).

I have a drip system here that is capable of keeping these things pretty wet - is it possible they stayed too wet? Is that possible with lilies?? Thanks for any ideas/thoughts. Will post a couple of follow-up pictures too.

You have daylilies (hemerocallis) not true lilies. Since I don't know your soil conditions it's difficult to advise you on watering. Here, I would water thoroughly about 1 once a week. They do get a LOT of sun and heat there. You may want to check the daylily forum as I'm pretty sure there are some TX folks on there.
