Hi, found this tree growing in Discovery Park in Seattle. It's apparently growing w/ out any care. The base is ~2'.
What is it?
Try that again...
Most likely Acer platanoides 'Crimson King'. Before it became a park, Discovery Park was a military base (Fort Lawton) for many years and there are many mature cultivated plants growing on it in what are now apparently wild or natural environments.
I don't remember if this specimen fades out later on not. The common larger ones here are 'Crimson King', 'Faassen's Black' and 'Schwedleri'. See A.L. Jacobson, TREES OF SEATTLE - SECOND EDITION.
