Maple budding

vegqueenApril 24, 2007

I have 2 enormous maples in my backyard. Not sure if they're sugar or Norway. 2 years ago the leaves were huge, red and orange and healthy. Last year they were smaller, more sparse, only yellow and fell early. A trusted "tree guy" said it was weather related to a drought in our area and they'd be fine this year. So far there is no budding this year. Most of our neighborhood trees are in bud. Should I be worried?

Worry doesn't bring back the tree if it decides to go to haven... sit back and enjoy the day.

OK, that was real helpful. Since I don't want my trees to go to "haven" is there anything I can do to help then along and make them healthier? They look like they might be starting to bud today.

Don't worry vegqueen. Funky weather patterns in late winter have lots of us wondering if our tree is a goner only to have them suddenly break bud and open their leaves in the span of a couple days.
You can't and shouldn't try to force them with added water or nutrients.
