need some info on red maple

Two years ago I planted a red maple in our yard for some privacy. It is centrally located about 20 ft. between our house, above ground pool, shed and vinyl fence. I planted it because it said it was a fast grower. But now we are having second thoughts because our neighbor is trying to tear out roots from a 12-14 year old maple that has totally decimated his yard. I've been trying to research about maples and root systems and thought I could get better advice on this forum. Do you think there will be a root problem above or below ground with the info I've listed? My husband wants me to dig this out asap, but I love my tree!

Acer rubrum grows quite large. All large-growing maples produces large, dense root systems that don't always play well with smaller plants and other features beneath them.

Choosing a spot for a large-growing red maple would be needed with A. rubrum and red-leaved forms of A. platanoides. A red-leaved form of A. palmatum would not have to be given a wide berth.

All may be referred to as "red maples".
