Positive out come to freeze

dcsteg(5 Shawnee, KS.)May 17, 2007

The late April freeze killed only one of my 15 Acer palms.

Acer p. 'Sango kaku.' A 10 year old and well established tree. As far as I am concerned this tree will not be missed. A out of control misfit that belonged in the dumpster.

A new replacement was in order: Acer p. 'Shaina.'

Sorry all you Kaku lovers.

Dave

Nice specimen. Was that from Family Tree?

Dave, nice 'Shaina'! Glad to hear the rest of your maples are doing well. Dan

I had a similar experience with the horrible spring weather. I have about 50 acers (some palmatums, shirsawanums and some sieboldianums) I lost only two trees and they were very small ones. I did have alot of limb loss on about a third of the others. One of the trees that now looks like a bonsai is my Shaina! Good luck. CharRube
