Common Red - Help ID

bluepoppyMay 12, 2007

I bought this red maple about 4 years ago and it didnt have a name-tag. I'm sure its a common one.

I normally "label" all my plants, but I'm not so good at ID'ing trees.

A lot of the red maples look similiar to me.

Help please!

Impossible to know with any certainty hundreds of varieties are out there but if it is common it is most likely a Bloodgood or more common Atrpurpureum..but you are in JM country so it could be anything ..if you lived in the heartland I would almost guarentee it is one of those two.. The leaves are hard to see but look a little too pointed to "definitly" be one of those two but I'd still say it is one of them "probably"...David
