pinched petioles

lavenderlverJuly 30, 2012

I purchased a 3 gallon 'Sybil' at a big box yesterday, mainly because a couple eyes caught my attention. The pot contains 4-5 eyes of August Moon(?). I know AM has alot of sports and spent a few hours last night looking at the Hosta Library.

One eye has dark green and yellow leaves in no particular pattern. Some leaves are literally 1/2 yellow, 1/2 green, some are green with a really bright yellow margin (sort of like Velvet Moon, but not quite) and some leaves have just a patch of dark green.

The other and more interesting eye has almost vase shaped growth. The leaves are light yellow and the top of the petiole is pinched together where it meets the leaf. It's a definate pinch and these are not new unfurling leaves.

Should I separate these two eyes out from the plant and see what happens? Either of these eyes sound interesting to you? They will be either potted or isolated for awhile.

I need to buy a camera!

Well you are pretty descriptive... But a camera is a must for any hosta gardener... I say leave it alone and see if its like this next year
