Early Asparagus

boulderbelt(5/6)April 6, 2014

Last year our asparagus started coming in in late March and by early April we were harvesting, a good 3 to 4 weeks early for us. So this year we wondered if putting a simple hoophouse over some asparagus beds to keep them warm during the day would work and guess what, we have spears emerging as of 3 days ago and should be harvesting by next week.

The hoophouse went on about 3 or 4 weeks ago-whenever it was that the snow melted and the ground thawed enough to be able to dig in the edges of the plastic.

this is a good idea that would probably work well with low tunnels as well.
