Selling herbs

Call.me-Ino8(7)April 23, 2013

My grandma is starting up a nursery, she has all sorts of stuff and she really enjoys it. I started thinking that since I LOVE herbs, that it would be fun to grow some and sell them through her. Right now I have about six variaties starting in a greenhouse; I have:

Catnip
German Chamomile
Blue Spice Basil
Toothache Plant
Feverfew
Anise Hyssop

Someone suggested that I supply the botanical names, too. But what I really want to know is what is a good way to sell them. We have Farmer's Markets and such, but I'm not sure on prices and all that. Any suggestions? I realise that different places have different prices, but we have the only nursery in town so I have nothing to base my prices on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ino, pricing is one of the hardest thing, IMHO, of the growing/selling part of this business.

I would check around to see what your competition is and what their prices are, then either match or raise your prices just a little bit.

We have a huge flea market nearby and a lady sells only herbs in her stall. I know a couple of years ago she was selling a 3x3 inch container for $3 or 2 for $5. She was very busy in the spring. She also did the local farmers markets.
