black currant

does anyone know where I can get a black currant bush, I have red currant and would love to get one of these, just had a cup of black currant tea and remembered black currants from my childhood, please let me know if you have any ideas.

They have them at Gurneys.com. Type "Currant, Ben Lomond" into the search box(and don't forget the $20 of $50 purchase if you decide to buy a few plants).

Here is a review of the cultivar 'Ben Lomond' from davesgarden:

'... is tolerant of frosts. Fruit ripens evenly and is large, with very high amounts of vitamin C. Great for jams as it also has a high pectin content.'

Another place with different types is One Green World. I have bought from them more than once with good results.

Mmmmm black currants...

I LOVE the jelly they make and the juice. If I had the room I'd have a bush. As it is, I'm getting another crabapple - maybe we can swap a bit of fruits in a couple years *GRIN*

Whitman farms is the best source I have found, but the web site is not updated often and you have to call in orders. The most variety of any source I have found, though many available are not listed, you have to ask. Order in late December or early January for the spring and you can have your pick of almost any currant or gooseberry variety.
