Will dwarf maple seedlings stay dwarf

kimkaMay 2, 2013

I have a beautifyl dwarf Japanese maple with fine red foliage. Last spring I found a seedling with identical but smaller foliage and potted up. I just found another yesterday.

My question is will these seedlings be as dwarf as the parent tree or will they be larger or otherwise different? I don't really have any other maples near by so it is not likely this is a hybrid.

I'm also going to post this over at the tree forum.

There's no guarantee the seedling will maintain the same characteristics as the parent, but you might as well give it a try.
