silver maple producing 2nd crop of seeds

kvbchOctober 23, 2013

Here in southern Illinois -- Zone 6 - our silver maples has produced a 2nd crop of winged seeds. I don't seem to remember this happening much in the past.

This crop is also smaller than those produced back in the spring....can anybody tell me what's up ??

Seeds in the Spring?
Maybe seeds left on the tree through the winter that were formed in the previous Fall.

I don't remember ever seeing seed storms other than in May or so...how odd.
