full sun vs. morning sun raised beds

idafrances(4)May 18, 2014

We built two 4 x 6 raised beds today, initially planning to install them on the west side of the house, where they would get tons of full sun.

Now we are wondering if we can make them work on the southeast corner of the yard, probably getting sun until about 1:00, then shaded somewhat by our catalpa tree.

I plan to grow herbs, beets, cucumber, tomato for the most part. I've never had an herb or vegetable garden before, and I'd appreciate your input. Thanks!

I would go with full sun. Morning sun isn't warm enough for your heat-loving plants like cukes and tomatoes. Herbs and lettuces, on the other hand, would love the morning sun with shelter from the heat. But I would still go with the west beds. Good luck!
