Whats eating my Kohlrabi?

tammymn(Z4MN)June 6, 2007

We lost 7 Kohlrabi overnight in a mesh protected 3 feet fenced in pen. The next night we lost the rest in another protected pen. It can't be rabbits. They cut just above the bulb that would eventually produce the Kohlrabit. ALmost all the leaves were gone. They were all sheared the same. Is it cut worms? Whatever it was it left all the cucumbers and tomatoes...need help!!! TammyMN

Hi Tammy,
Here's a wild guess....the first thing that came to my mind was that kohlrabi is probably in the cabbage family. Then I thought of cabbage butterfly....possibly the plants provided an excellent host for some sort of butterfly. How nice of you, if this is true, to have so thoughtfully provided a food source for them (you can go to the store to buy yours, I suppose.....) (grin)

Yeah, my other thought was green loopers (the cats of the cabbage white butterfly)

However, there's one other thing - there are an AWFUL lot of grasshoppers out there too now!
