Raspberries

rachaelmadeJune 1, 2010

Last year I planted a Raspberry bush in my neighbors yard (we live in town homes). I did not know at the time how much they spread. I was told that their roots are not set deep and that I can put a coffee can into the ground around the base of the plants I want to keep. My question is - If I do this now will she still have a crop this summer? Also, If I sever the roots will new plants still grow?

Thanks,

Rachaelmade

I wouldn't expect berries on a raspberry bush the year it is planted. I believe that most domestic raspberries bear fruit on the branches that grew last year, so any branches that it grew last year should have berries this year. But there are people on this forum that know a lot more about raspberries then I do, so hopefully they'll have more to add.
