I ran across this plant while 4-wheeling in the woods yesterday. I've not seen this one before. Each 3 lobed leaf was maybe 3 inches across. Can anyone ID it for me?
That is hepatica (americana?), aka liverwort. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this plant does in my city garden.
Agreed, that is hepatica. It is one of the first to flower each spring in my woods, and bears clusters of delicate fowers ranging from white to lavender & pink.
One of my favorite woodland plants! I have shared a few over the years at various swaps.
Now I'm almost wishing I'd dug it up and brought it home. BUT, it is the first one I've spotted on our rides, so maybe there aren't that many of them here. I'll keep an eye out and if I see a lot more, will transplant some.
Thanks Aronia and Linda!
I've had one, from the wild, by my house for about ten years, and it is the very first thing to bloom....even before the dandelions!
