Mailbox gardens

Hello everyone! I have been wanting to plant a garden around my mailbox for a number of years and this is the year I'm going to do it. I am looking for ideas (hopefully pics too!) and opinions on perennials and small shrubs that can take the beating of the salty snowbanks the plows pile at the ends of the drive every year. Especially looking for a shorter, hardy clematis that can take it. Morning glories might be the way to go but I'd prefer to make this entirely perennial (the spot is in full sun).

I am so excited to be able to start another garden and am really looking forward to hearing your suggestions and ideas!

My neigbor and I do Gaillardia, ie, Indian Blanket. It is very hardy and likes to be in sandy-rocky ground, and stays in bloom all summer. Too rich a soil is not good for it. Road salt doesn't affect it at all.
