NOID: in an 'awkward phase' or just ugly?

mommy_monteroJuly 28, 2012

My mom gave me this division. It gets bright shade in the morning, about an hour of direct sunlight right at noon, and deep shade from about 4pm on. I thought at first it was Patriot, but now the new leaves are coming in all green. Any thoughts? Will it grow up to be a swan, or should I shovel it?

From what I can see, it looks like u. albomarginata.

If it is, then the all green part is evidence of stress. Is it getting enough water?

Before making a decision on keeping it or not, wait for someone else to confirm that it's u. albomarginata or to offer another ID. Is it possible to see a photo of the mother plant? That way you could get a definite ID.

There was a discussion about undulata albomarginata last week, which pretty much summed up how everyone feels about it, me included.

Thanks, bkay - I checked out the link, and it looks exactly like what I have, only mine aren't toasty. They look pretty happy, actually, just green. Dryness couldn't possibly be an issue since it's been storming every day for the past couple of weeks and my yard is practically a marsh (unless they're getting too much water). The parent plant looks like the photos on that thread of un-toasty u. albomarginata...and yeah, I think I agree with the majority opinion.
