muddy backyard

kellykn4(9)January 13, 2005

It is now January and I have so much mud in my backyard! (rain/snow/rain/snow) The worst is where the yard begins- worn dog paths. Is there anything I could use to cover these random areas until the ground can dry or freeze? The areas are about 3'x3'. I think I will sod them in the Spring/Summer, seed isn't taking. I just want to decrease the amount of mud brought into the house. Straw?

Yes, straw would be fine. Lots of mud here too w/an unbelievable 12" of rain for the month. Rain rain GO AWAY!!!

Sorry for turning this into a rant :)

you will not need it today and for the next couple of days

But it's a good idea to have the straw in place of lot's of mud.

I'm in MI too. Lots of straw. Thats really the only thing to do right now. We just built a new house last year so the grass isnt real thick yet. Needless to say when the dog goes out we need to clean his paws when he comes in. Its really bab around the chicken coop and garden, the dogs favorite place to run around. I put about 5 bales of straw down, and may do some more yet. If you put it down over grass, it will be multched up the first time you mow the yard. Its good for the soil too.
