Picking your favorites

GreenThumbinKCFebruary 28, 2005

Okay, I know this is like "tell me who your favorite child is...", but I'm curious if you could only have five (5) plants that you currently have planted in your landscape, what would you select?

My five are (in no specific order):

1. Geranium, Rozanne -- the color is beautiful and the blooms last for months

2. Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar -- I love the blue/green and the winter interest is to "die for"

3. Knockout Rose -- again, blooms (red) that last all summer and into the fall

4. Japanese Maple "Aureum" -- awesome spring color and I love the shape of the leaves

5. Hosta, Tardina "June" -- have you seen this one? The coloration is fantastic

This is hard!

Mine would be:
1. Hosta Paul's Glory
2. Juniper Mother Lode (it glows!)
3. Knockout Rose
4. Brunnera Jack Frost, gorgeous blue blooms and that leaf color!
5. Horse chestnut trees

I'll bite. Here's my list:

1. Hamamelis x intermedia 'Jelena' - fragrant and colorful just when you think winter will never end
2. Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' - several weeks of late summer/early fall white flowers on a beautiful plant
3. Aquilegia canadensis - native columbine
4. Itea virginica 'Henry's Garnet' - looks good in bloom, good fall color, red stems give winter interest
5. Rosa x 'Sorcerer' - miniature rose, lovely red; a blooming machine

Ask me again tomorrow, you might get a different answer. :)

Oh my, I have 135 roses in my gardens and numerous herbs, hydrangeas, daylilies, lilies and tons of perennials. I'll try to pick one of each, it's tough because I'm really partial to my roses. I guess my faves would have to be:

Tamora (an Austin rose)
Liebeszauber (a red rose)
Endless Summer hydrangea
Tom Pouce Lily
Apricot Sparkles daylily

Ok, so I picked two roses, couldn't help myself! LOL

P.S. Cool thread!

Well hello, my friend!! Let's see, my top five:

1. Hydrangea Endless Summer
2. Salvia May Night
3. Clematis Jackmanii
4. Shrub Rose, "Belinda's Dream"
5. Sedum "Neon"

Here's a little bonus for you, though you won't be surprised: If I had to pick only one, it would be Endless Summer hydrangea.

Heritage River Birch
Quaking Aspen
Hosta 'Golden Tiara'
Daylilly- don't know the name, but it's peach, slightly ruffled, and the blooms are huge. Long bloom time too; looks fabulous next to the Golden Tiara Hosta.
Sedum 'Autumn Joy'
