Anyone know where I can purchase mushroom compost in the Detroit Metropolitan area?
I buy it at Home Depot. I don't know much about mushroom compost and its uses. Do you?
Patriciac: here's a cite to check out info on mushroom compost. http://www.mushroomcompost.com/faq.htm
I used it extensively on a flower garden in the UK, the flowers must have liked the mushroom compost as they were wonderful and probably the best show I had ever had up to that point.
However the soil had never been used apart from growing weeds before we got the house so maybe it was a combination of new soil plus the mushroom compost.
Fortunately the soil on the farm where I now live (East of KC by about 40 miles) is rich and black with no clay or rocks,

By Google search I found a mushroom farm Manko Mushrooms Inc 6400 Dryden Road, Almont, MI 48003 (810) 798-3447
also, a company that ships anywhere: Dixie Landscape Supply

I don't think that the humus from Home Depot is compost and the stuff they have in Warren this year has a lot of clay mixed in.
Hope this helps :)
Great stuff, but be careful... can have a high pH!
I gardened in Detroit for many years. There are several mushroom farms in the Bay city area. They will give it away virtually for free but you have to transport it. I will have to check and see if I can find the address of the place I always went to. It worked wonders for my garden.
I got mine from Home Depot the other day. It was somewhat hard to find, on a random end cap, but I'm assuming that all HD's would carry it.
It's supposed to work wonders with bananas...
