Pickin' up pawpaws...

chrisms(MS z8a)February 12, 2007

Does anyone know what pawpaw varieties will grow well in the Deep South? I've learned from research that most cultivars originated in the Midwest or Upper South (KY, TN, north GA). I'm concerned they won't get the chilling hours necessary for good production here in NW Mississippi, or the summers will be too hot.

God bless,

Thought I saw some southern type paw paws in a catalog recently. Sorry, I can't remember which one.

These guys have done a lot with paw paws. Maybe you could contact them?

Asimina triloba will grow well in the south. I have a lot of butterfly gardening friends in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida that grow it for the zebra swallowtails (it's their host plant).
