Remove a prairie dock?

shivadiva(6a)March 5, 2011

I have a prairie dock in absolutely the wrong place -- next to the foundation. I would love to move it somewhere else but I know they have 8-10 foot roots. What's the best way to eradicate it? (It just flops over.) Do I have to use a systemic on it?

If you dig down enough to move the root crown (1' - 2'), that should be sufficient to transplant and prevent regrowth in the old spot.

The old spot may get some re-sprouts, but a few hand pulls should take care of those.
