Hardy Hibiscus

jennypat Zone 3b NW MN(Zone 3b NW MN)September 5, 2011

I messed up! I purchased some hardy hibiscus earlier this year, and planted them in what I thought was a good spot. Turns out they are not as tall as I thought they would be, and the echinecea next to them is taller. So the hisbiscus blooms are lost in the echinecea.

SO I need to move the hibiscus, when is the best time to do this? I hate to do it now while they are blooming, but I know in the spring they are last to emerge.

Give them more time, in a year or two they should be much taller than your echinacea. One of mine in the ground the third year is about 4' X 3' and some varieties get taller.
I wait until spring to move mine.

Be sure to mark the hibiscus area because they are one of the latest plants to appear in the spring, for me late May to early June. It is easy to forget there is a plant in that bare space and fill it with other plants.
