Please help me identify this bush

AnnmargaretMay 5, 2013

We moved in to our house last April, and during the craziness of the move I did not notice this flowering bush (either that or it didn't blossom last year). Anyways, here is a picture of one of the blossoms.

Can somebody please tell me what it is so that I can know how to care for it? It only had a few blossoms this spring, and there was some type of invasive green shoot that was growing near its base.

Thank you!

Photo is of Magnolia"Stellata"---early spring bloomer--can get 8ft tall by 8 ft wide---blooms on prevous seasons wood---so pruning should be completed by 6 weeks from bloom
