green dragon (arisaema) disease???

sunleafmoonApril 21, 2010

I've been fortunate to have quite a bit of Green Dragon growing wild in the woods, including some plants that were quite tall. Last spring, many of them had a yellow or orange-ish bumpy scale on the leaves, and some of the leaves were distorted. I tried spraying them with a fungicide, which did no good at all. By mid-summer all the Green Dragon was gone....but I think they are ephemerals and that is normal.

This spring the Green Dragon has come back, but the plants are much smaller. Some leaves appear distorted again, and a pale, mottled color. The Jack-in-the-Pulpit I planted 2 years ago has not come back at all, though it did not appear to be infected last summer.

I love Arisaemas! Can anyone identify this disease? Is there an effective way to treat it?

Sounds like a fungal disease called rust. It can be treated.
